In my fairly progressive state, we have one senator who is leading the pack- Bernie- and the other senator, who only got elected because Bernie endorsed him, has voted for SIX of the cabinet fascists. Peter Welch- any Vermonters reading this, please tell Peter that is not why he has a job: to be a trump sycophant.

Don't forget the Senate! Imo the most vunberable GOP Senators a Tillis, Collins, Ernst and if we're very lucky Cornyn or Marshall.

Meanwhile the Dems who need the most help are Ossoff and whoever runs in Michigan (Dem retirement, multiple folks in the primary look fine).

I haven’t forgotten. I’ll address them in a separate post.

If Pete runs in Michigan, he will be a very strong candidate.

I’m glad to see elected Dems awake, but it’s going to be on all of us to stop this wrecking ball attacking our democracy. Mass protests and massive organizing are going to be necessary to stop this. Trump and Musks takeover is moving so fast I fear even 2026 midterms might be too late. It is likely the fix will be in and elections won’t be fair. All of his nominees are going to get confirmed and that will accelerate the takeover. Sorry to say it but I believe mass strikes and economic pressure will have to be implemented in next few months or we might be lambs to slaughter. This is real, there has been lots of talk of “constitutional crisis” but now we are in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. It’s on us to try everything to stop it or at least slow it down for another round of elections.

I agree on the strikes. I wish we would start now.

We’re not ready yet. I think once the mass firings of civil servants, tech employees begin in earnest people will realize it’s really happening. Trump and Musk are psychopaths who want to inflict as much pain as possible to crush the opposition. I don’t think enough of us know what is coming to be ready for the massive actions that will be necessary.

You may be right. I said I wish for the same reason.

"Democratic members of Congress including Chuck Schumer, spoke at the event, which drew ***hundreds*** of protesters last Tuesday." Ooof. Overwhelmingly underwhelming. Wake me up when hundreds of THOUSANDS protest...

Don't expect to see ANY meaningful resisitance from SQIDs (Status Quo Institutionalist Democrats). Boldness and daring are antithetical to their very nature. SQIDs are all for keeping things pretty much as they are, not changing much of anything, not upsetting any institutions or corporate donors, and limiting themselves to tinkering at the margins. These are NOT the folks to lead us out of Nazi Occupied America.

Yes, Mark. The 30 hours of speeches against Vought brought a lot of despicable facts to light. In particular the way he performed the last time was laid bare. So we have some more ammunition to stymie him at every turn. And what about the No Kings Act? Where does that stand now?

It died with the last Congress. To my knowledge, it has not been reintroduced.

Thanks for that update, Mark. So it could be re-introduced to this session I guess. But now I hear impeachment rustling? What’s a body to do . . .

Someone please explain how proposing futile legislation about what is *already against the law* counts as "doing something".

Students at Bowdoin just occupied the student union building, and others just egged Netanyahu's motorcade. I don't think the Palestine protesters are going away. I am out every Saturday.

Yes, funny, isn't it? Of all the things that directly affect them, they chose that, not climate action, not reproductive rights or various other democratic rights in jeopardy, not economic injustice, not inequality & record disparity in wealth & power, not corporations & billionaires controlling nearly all levers of power in the US, not Russian atrocities in Ukraine & existential threat to the rest of Europe… And what good did it do? It didn't affect US policy toward Israel one iota, unfortunately. But it did help discredit the Biden administration & get him replaced with an even more pro-Israeli, anti-Palestinian administration, & took attention & aid away from Ukraine, helping Trump & Musk's puppetmaster in Russia.

Now what will their response be when their own nation & way of life is in peril, caused by the very people who benefited most from their protests last year?
