Thank you so much for the kind words! Trump and the people who enable him have destroyed a once great party. They’ll have to blow it up to fix it, or start a new one.
I've said it before, but I feel that as Democrats, we fail to even try to understand Trump's appeal, making it harder for us to win decisively in the process. You do a good job of describing the current state of the GOP as an authoritarian, out-of-the-mainstream party, but we also know that Trump will very likely win at least 47% of the popular vote, as he did four years ago. He also made substantial gains with non-white voters in 2020, and might do so again this fall.
The most relevant question today is, how can Harris win in a truly convincing fashion (let's say with 55% of the popular vote), one that makes Trumpism a clear dead end for the GOP, rather than winning somewhat narrowly, as Biden did in 2020?
Ironically, the special elections of the last year or two have suggested that we now do best as a party when turnout is low! Trump's supporters tend to be lower-propensity voters, so I think we actually don't want massive turnout this fall.
I think we should instead hope/push for Harris to raise issues in the campaign that go beyond the Dem base. As one example, she could release a plan to very gradually reduce the national debt. I think we'd be surprised how many voters she could pick up, without losing any Democrats.
Thank you, Mark. That was one of the longest posts I’ve read in a while. I usually prefer hard copy materials when possible, but this obviously held my interest as I kept scrolling. Your depth of knowledge on the subject is impressive.
Definitely redo the tax code. It is completely and totally screwed up.
Oh, I know the Ds have their faults and I go deeply into them in my piece on the Democratic Party. I definitely don’t have blinders on.
Thank you so much! Me either.

Why indeed! Thanks for reading.
Always speak good about the dead. The Republican Party is dead. Good.

My question exactly. Turnout is the only think I can think of. Massive turnout.

Restructure tax laws.
This is a good, comprehensive analysis. Thank you for increasing our understanding of what led to the failure of the R party.

Thank you Katharine! That is much appreciated. It was longer than I planned.
Exactly.
Could not have said it better!
Agree completely, and thanks for reading!
A great point.
Thank you so much and welcome!!!!
Many thanks. I really believe ranked choice voting could help curb this radicalization.
Thank you so much for the kind words!
