Mamdani showed how much renaming the Democratic Party "We're Not Republicans" is a failed manipulation. The public want more from us, and we owe more to them. We certainly owe them creativity and assertiveness.

Beat me to it-just what I was going to write.

Mamdani may have shown the way. I'll give him credit for that. If democrats ignore him then we need the younger progressives to start another party. The NEW Democrats has a ring to it. Bernie went it alone and got people like AOC to take him seriously. It can happen again.

And David Hogg, who scared the OLD Democrats. He threatened to upset what they foolishly still thought, after last year, was a successful, or even minimally workable, strategy.

I agree. These are times when people are questioning the validity of both parties. That’s a first for America. Mamdani brought it to the fore. I hope the Old Guard just retire and let those who are more capable take the helm in this totally different world!

We have others who didn't get elected, yet. We have Trygve Hammer, Lucas Kunce, and Ryan Busse, to name some Substackers who ran, but didn't win last year.

Well what can I say but onward and upward. We can't stop now or the republicans win. I hope those people you mentioned start making noise that the voters can hear! So much of their life depends on people that are not the BIG NAMES so they should make a lot of racket!

I think voters are much less likely to make breathtakingly stupid mistakes next year. We've already won almost all the special elections since last year. And the Republicans aren't even done yet showing the public how badly they want to hurt them. They don't take their feet off the gas, and in a sad way, I don't want them to. This is what it will take to get this crew out. Of course, we're still stuck with Donnie or JD for two more years after the end of next year, and the SCOTUS for who knows how long.

I think you were right the first time: Sanders brought it to the fore. And he collected the "Squad." Mamdani is a new member.

Agreed but I heard the phrase Democratic Socialism was first coined by Martin Luther King. Sure could use someone like him around today.

The Irony of what Mamdani stands for is not lost on Democratic voters of yore. What Zoran is telling people is the same thing that Democrats USED to tell voters when they were truly the party of the (Liberal) left. That you, the primary voter, chose who was to be the nominee, not the party executive. This is what happened with Mamdani. The VOTERS chose him over the executives nominee. That's how it should be. Democrats brought about the Civil Rights movement, they were anti-racism, anti-war and a also spearheaded a new wave of feminism. They had a good relationship with the Unions. They had black people in the party and long hair lol.

I think the current executives in the Democratic Party should take a long hard look at themselves before criticising Zoran Mamdani. He is the true Social Democrat and should be supported if the Dems want to win the vote in 2026. Meanwhile they should give their head a shake and remember who and what they used to stand for and stand for those values again. Support those younger members who joined because of what the party stood for or get out of the way. They can either hinder or help. Their choice.
